We are delighted to announce that Shaunna Lee Lynch has signed with us for her poignant young adult dystopia, The Goddess Complex!
Shaunna Lee Lynch is a writer, spoken-word poet, and performer from Cork, Ireland. She has performed her poems at arts events and festivals all over Ireland and abroad. Winner of the 2019 All-Ireland Poetry Slam Championship, Shaunna went on to compete at European Poetry Slam Championship 2022 in Rome, and the World Poetry Slam Championship 2023 in Rio De Janeiro. In particular, the TV show Buffy the Vampire Slayer became a defining influence on her life and storytelling. Shaunna’s work regularly explores eco-anxiety, gender, mental health and mysticism, through the lens of their own lived experiences.
The Goddess Complex is powerful, feminist novel for young adults that explores loneliness and connection, resisting oppressive systems, and learning to believe in yourself.
In 2064 Ireland, society is tightly surveilled and segregated in a rebranded capital city called the Croí. Female Intuition is classified as a dangerous mental illness known as ‘The Goddess Complex’ and those afflicted are subject to institutionalization and detainment in the Croí.
Raised in isolation by her four nomadic aunts, Elmagh is a lonely and anxious 16-year-old and all she wants is to have friends her own age. But when Elmagh’s life is thrust into chaos and she is left alone, she has no choice but to make the treacherous journey to the Croí.
In order to save her family and get what she’s always wanted— a friend— she’ll first have to learn to trust her intuition and believe in herself.
Can’t wait to read it!!!
