We are pleased to announce that Emma Errington has signed with us for I Never Lived There, a tender memoir featuring Emma and Roly who have occupied the so-called ‘glamorous’ worlds of television, film and high society, yet ironically find navigating other people confusing, bewildering and overwhelming. With each other however, they find the safety to be exactly who they are.
Emma Errington (née Blake) was born into showbusiness to a television director father and actress mother. She first appeared on television as a stolen baby in an episode of Dixon of Dock Green, then at the age of 10, she played the title role in BBC Television’s 1974 adaptation of Johanna Spyri’s Heidi. Informally diagnosed and referred for autism by her GP in early 2026, she advocates for better understanding of possible neuro-diversity in older adults who may have struggled all their lives with feelings of ‘otherness’.
Emma hopes the message in her memoir will make people ‘think twice about taking the mickey out of that ‘funny old bloke’ down the road who is always in his garden tending his begonias’ and ‘that old lady who always buys the same food in the supermarket, has ten pairs of the same trousers’.
