We are excited to announce that Paul Crawford has signed a publishing agreement for his new literary thriller, The Wonders of Doctor Bent.
Paul Crawford is an award-winning writer. He is the founder and world’s first professor of the field of health humanities, which seeks to enhance people’s well-being through creative practices. Crawford’s first novel, Nothing Purple, Nothing Black won critical acclaim among fellow writers such as David Lodge, Roy Porter, Sara Maitland and Paul Sayer. He led What’s Up With Everyone, a series of five new short animations supporting young people’s mental health with Academy Award-winning Aardman. Crawford’s non-fiction works include Mental Health Literacy and Young People, Cabin Fever: Surviving Lockdown in the Coronavirus Pandemic, Florence Nightingale at Home (winner of Best Achievement in The People’s Book Prize 2022), and many more.
In The Wonders of Doctor Bent, the worlds of Jason Hemp, an English lecturer, and Dr Bent, the unlikely Medical Director of the high-security psychiatric hospital, Foston Hall, come together in a dark tale of murder, revenge and abandonment. Do we know anyone? Can we trust anyone? What happens when trust meets trauma? The worlds of leading forensic psychiatrist, Doctor Bent and English lecturer, Jason Bent collide in startling ways. Can both men survive the death of trust? Do books save lives?
