We are delighted to share that Emma Woodhouse has signed with us for her compelling historical fiction novel, Mercy!
Emma Woodhouse worked for the Ironbridge Gorge Museum as a Victorian demonstrator at Blists Hill Victorian Town for seven years before completing her BA (Hons) in Literature with the Open University and a PGCE with the University of Worcester and becoming a teacher. Having dressed as a Victorian for so many years and working in an environment which meant developing a keen understanding of Victorian life, Emma was inspired to reveal the lost histories of forgotten working-class Victorian women. She enjoys historical realism and engages in in-depth research to ensure that the novels she creates from the lives of real women are accurate and truthful. She likens her novel-style to creative non-fiction, in that it is as true to fact as fiction can possibly be. She believes that there are astounding histories out there just waiting to be rediscovered, histories which have been forgotten due to class status.
A family curse, a jealous daughter, a murdered mother. Mercy is a true-to-life historical fiction novel, that explores the notorious case of Mercy Newton, a woman who stood trial three times for a crime that shook the whole of Great Britain. Was she guilty or simply a victim of flawed Victorian justice?
Mercy is a must-read for anyone who enjoys a fresh perspective on history, an intriguing mystery, and a story that will keep you questioning long after the last page.
