We are thrilled to announce that Lucie Bowins has signed with us for her debut witchy YA fantasy filled with Celtic Mythology, Elderwitch!
Lucie Bowins is a YA fiction writer, poet and memoirist. Lucie first attended London’s CityLit writing for children course where she was mentored by award-winning children’s author Sophie McKenzie. She later went on to complete an MA in creative writing at Canterbury Christchurch University and is now undertaking a creative writing PhD. She loves nothing more than creating new and exciting worlds, whether past or future. Elderwitch is her first young adult fantasy novel set between the turbulent Welsh Marche of the 14th century and the mystical island of Mayda.
Elderwitch follows sixteen-year-old Emeline de Gournay, the only daughter of a wealthy Norman baron, who dreams of adventure. As she prepares to meet her future husband, she knows this can never be. Everything changes on the morning of her betrothal when her younger brother is abducted by a terrifying, shapeshifting elderwitch. To make things worse, her only hope of rescuing him is to join forces with Owain ap Hywel, a young Welsh half-hazelwitch she is inexplicably drawn to, who is accused of her brother’s kidnapping. As they journey from her home in the turbulent Welsh Marche of the 14th century into a world of fighting treewitches and mythical beasts, Emeline comes to realise that rescuing her brother is not enough. She must destroy the elderwitch, not only to find her peace but also to stop the havoc the witch will bring to both the world of the treewitches and her own.
