Neville Blackwood is a former senior detective whose career spanned more than thirty years investigating some of the UK’s most dangerous criminals. Rising through the ranks he worked at the sharp end of organised crime and covert operations before moving into international roles that took him to conflict zones, embassies, and law enforcement offices around the world. Armed with an MSc in International Policing and a degree in English Literature, Neville blends the investigator’s forensic eye with the storyteller’s craft.
Covert is set in the early 90s in London, when heroin was contaminating the streets and police covert operations were evolving into one of the most dangerous arenas of law enforcement. The novel follows Detective Sergeant Mark Carter as he joins a covert unit trying to infiltrate the network of feared kingpin Freddie Morgan. With the help of a compromised informant, the team inches closer to Freddie but the deeper Carter goes, the more he realises that betrayal is not confined to the criminal underworld. Corruption within his own police chain of command threatens to unravel everything.
