We are excited to announce that Mary Moloney has signed with us for her lyrical and heart-warming literary novel, The Philosophy Friends!
Mary lives in Naas, Co. Kildare, Ireland, where she balances her life as a qualified meditation teacher with her passion for storytelling. During the 2020 lockdown, she rediscovered her love for writing after joining a local writing group, The Moat Writers. Surrounded by encouragement and like-minded companions, her writing flourished, and in June 2024, Mary self-published her debut novel, The Live with Gusto Fund. Her second novel, The Philosophy Friends, is due for publication in 2026.
Alongside writing, Mary enjoys theatre, books, art journaling, painting, Chakra dance, and singing. She finds joy and inspiration in her varied pursuits, her clients, and the lively companionship of her dog, Ally.
The Philosophy Friends is a novel where an evening class in Practical Philosophy becomes the soup that dissolves the unique tragedies of Caitriona, Alva, Aedamar, and by association Mo, as they blend wisdom with new friendships and awakenings. It explores hardships and emphasizes the enduring power of friendships.
Caitriona, a fifty year old solicitor has to deal with the loss of her son, Don, through a drowning accident in upstate New York, 15 months earlier. She tries “new love” as an escape mechanism, but it fails her. She becomes intertwined with her new friends lives, helping her forget her own grief as her natural empathy absorbs their individual difficulties.
Alva is the dark horse of the three, coming from an abusive relationship. Aged 38, she’s the youngest of the friends and is acutely aware of her biological age pointing a finger at her. She settles on Donor Insemination as the best solution for having a baby at this stage. However all does not go according to plan.
Aedamar, at 68, is the elder lemon of the group. Recently returned from London after several years because of her husband Sam’s Alzheimers, she forges deep friendships with the other women. She has also lost her only sibling a priest in Montreal. There is one other important person in both her and Sam’s lives: their foster daughter, Mo, who is half Korean, though she has never known her dad. She is currently on a mission to find him. She does get to finally track down her father through a bizarre set of circumstances, rather than via the PI, whom Aedamar spent serious amounts of money on.
